Writ filed challenging Shahjahan Omar’s candidacy

A writ has been filed against Jhalakathi-1 Awami League candidate Shahjahan Omar challenging his candidacy.

A voter of the constituency filed the writ with the High Court on Wednesday.

Earlier on December 15, the Election Commission (EC) declared that Shahjahan Omar’s candidacy will remain valid after hearing an appeal of AL’s central leader of the same area and independent candidate Muniruzzaman Munir, who alleged that Omar concealed information in his affidavit about cases filed against him.

Shahjahan Omar was the vice chairman of opposition BNP. He came out of jail and announced that he would contest the national election as a AL nominee.
